The Vatican Denounces the Anti-Christian Attacks in Sri Lanka

“Ignoring the explicitly anti-Christian aspect” of the suicide bombings in Sri Lanka, “would be an insult to the victims, to the survivors, and to their relatives,” said Bernardito Auza, Apostolic Nuncio and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations (UN), speaking in the name of the Vatican.

Don’t talk to the prelate about it being a coincidence with the April 21 date: “what happened in Sri Lanka did not happen on Easter Sunday by chance,” said Bishop Auza, adding that to resolve the terrorism problem, it is first necessary to “describe the attacks by their own name.”

Finally, in an address to his fellow diplomats, the Observer of the Holy See remarked: “The international community is, understandably, very frank when it denounces the rise of anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hatred. The same standard must be applied to attacks against Christians.”

One way is to point out the cynical “double standard” that is often used against the Church in order to minimize the wave of anti-Christian hatred that is washing over both the faithful and their places of worship, throughout the world.
