The Vatican Adopts Health Passes

As has been the case since the beginning of the pandemic, the Vatican City State is harmonizing its health measures with those of the Italian State. As of Friday, August 6, the Vatican Museums have begun to impose the same controls as all the other museums in Italy.
Called the “Green Pass” in Italy, the health pass system, i.e., certification of vaccination against Covid-19, or, the recovery from or a negative test for the virus, is now required to be able to visit the museums.
Also at the Vatican Museums, staff now require the presentation of the pass, in digital or printed form, as well as an identity document in order to be allowed in.
This requirement also applies to persons having made prior reservations. Visitors must make a reservation through the online address: https://tickets.museivaticani.va/home.
The health pass system is gradually coming into effect in many European states. In Italy, it came into effect for cinemas, museums, and restaurants (except on the terrace).
On September 1st, it will be extended to include teachers and users of certain public transportation (inside aircraft, long-distance trains, and some ferry lines).
For the moment, cultural activities held in churches are not affected by this system.
It remains to be seen, in view of the strong opposition the health pass system has encountered in various countries, namely Italy, if this adoption risks diminishing the flow of visitors to the Vatican Museums at a time when their presence is needed in the effort to balance their budgets.
