The American publishing house Ignatius Press will publish Cardinal George Pell's prison diary by the end of the year. During his 400 days of detention, the Australian prelate wrote a thousand pages of reflections on his life in prison, the Catholic Church, his work in the Vatican, politics, society, and even sports.

Ignatius Press will therefore be its English-language publisher. “I’ve already read the first half of the journal and it’s amazing. It will certainly be a spiritual classic. As the entire journal is around 1,000 pages, we will publish it in three or four volumes,” said editor-in-chief Fr. Joseph Fessio to reporters.

Cardinal Pell, 79, was released in April 2020 after his acquittal by Australian courts after 400 days in detention. “This is not just the victory of one man or the victory of the Church in Australia,” writes Fr Fessio. “She showed the whole world how far the enemies of the Church will go and how dishonest they are in discrediting her.”
