St. Thomas More Academy Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser

St. Thomas More Academy's students and staff during the 2021 Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser.
On February 16th, 2021, St. Thomas More Academy held its annual Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser. The event was held right here on the St. Thomas More campus in the field just south of the parking lot.
In years past, the Jog-A-Thon enjoyed more publicity, being held at a public park in the town of Sanford. But this year, due to Pandemic concerns, it was thought prudent to keep the race on our own property. Students and staff spent an hour running around an eighth-of-a-mile track, receiving a rubber band on their wrist every time they passed the starting line. In this way, they were able to keep an accurate count of their laps. In the weeks leading up to the Jogathon, students made their best efforts to obtain sponsors who would pledge a certain donation per lap.
Vice Principal Justin Sauer far outran any other person, ending with 66 laps, an amazing pace of over a lap a minute. The Runner up was Fr. Jacobs with 59 laps. Third place went to our oldest 7th-grade boy, Brendan C., who never once stopped running to finish with 57 laps.
Cecilia S., 4th grade, was the fastest girl in the women’s category, coming in with 47 laps. She was followed closely by 6th grader Wendy R. and 8th grader Margaret C., who tied for 45 laps.
Fitting the 1/8 mile running track in the south field was a bit of a tight squeeze. Volunteers had to clear tree branches so that students could run close to the trees on the south border of the property. The track itself was grass punctuated by an occasional ant hill.
The weather, sunny with a cool breeze made it a good day for running. Morale was high as students ran, though when asked what she thought about the event, kindergartener Lucy R. replied that it was “torture.”
The fundraiser was followed by a pizza picnic for lunch, and the school day being over, students were allowed to go home.
To all the participants and benefactors, our warmest thank you!
