St. Thomas More Academy held its 2019 commencement on Saturday, June 15.

The morning’s events began with a Solemn High Mass celebrated by Fr. Yves le Roux, who visited from St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Dillwyn, VA. In his sermon Father reminded the students of the need to practice gratitude – to Almighty God, their priests and parents, and for having finished another school year.

After Mass, the commencement ceremony began with a procession of the students from kindergarten through eighth grade to a stage erected on the priory grounds for the weekend’s events. After the opening invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, the students entertained the guests by singing a series of popular songs.

Fr. le Roux then gave an address about the importance of seeing God in every event and every circumstance.

Next followed the presentation of certificates, the awarding of diplomas, the recognition of the teachers and support staff, and then the final benediction.

The next day following the Sunday Solemn High Mass the students gave a presentation of the Jules Verne classic “Around the World in 80 Days.”
