The Netherlands Opens Debate on the Suicide Pill
According to the Spanish newspaper Abc, the Dutch government could consider making available for people aged 70 and over, a pill which would allow them to die at home, when they want.

In its digital edition of February 5, 2020, Abc specifies that the ruling government coalition in the Netherlands has just exhumed the project of a supreme court judge, Huib Drion, who died in 2004. 40 years ago, this magistrate expressed his wish that in a supposedly ideal world, the state would make a suicide pill available to citizens over 70 years of age, so that each one could die on the day and time of his choosing.
In order for the nightmare to have a chance of becoming a reality, the project must still be sold to its constituents. To this end, a good communications director always advises his client to carry out a survey which, by nature, is always guided by his sponsor.
Thus, the Dutch executive has commissioned a study, the results of which endeavor to show that more than 10,000 people over 55 years of age—out of 21,000 interviewed—would wish to use the death pill in due time, even lacking a serious pathology.
A member of the ruling coalition, the progressive party Democraten 66 has already declared that it is relying on the results of this inquiry to soon bring out a bill in Parliament to legalize the suicide pill.
