Competition for the First Floridian Thanksgiving at St. Thomas More Academy

Excited young faces were seen heading for the 4th Portable carrying their Thanksgiving-themed projects after the Academy Sunday Mass on November 17th in anticipation of the 2nd St. Thomas More Academy contest. Artistic crafts ranging from Pine Cone Turkeys, poetry, Shadow-boxes, culinary creations, and artistic renditions of the First Thanksgiving, in St. Augustine in 1565, name only a few of the wonderful handmade projects.  

The judges had a difficult job selecting from all of the creative work of the school-aged children of the Academy and parish.  After the judging was completed the following children received 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in the following groups:

K-2nd grade: Zander Simonton (poetry), Edith Sauer (Thanksgiving shadow box), Sawyer Bourque (beaded corn cobs).  

3rd-4th grade: Isabella Alf (first Mass at St Augustine with clay landscape), Georgia Bourque (candy apples), Frances Leyva (cornbread).

5th-8th grade: Brent Leyva (First Thanksgiving stew), Jackson Bourque (standing wooden turkey decoration), Mary LoPresti (Oreo turkeys & Reece’s Pilgrim hats).
